Four Cards from One Pile of Flowers (and a Very Honest Desk)

Sometimes the best cardmaking sessions don’t start with a plan… they start with a pile.

On my desk this week was a scatter of tiny die-cut flowers I had already made using two older Impression Obsession sets Tiny Flowers and Tiny Six Petal Flowers.

Instead of putting them away, I decided to use all of them.

Card 1: Pimento Confetti + Vellum Sentiment

This one started as a loose scatter of flowers on a C&9th pimento cardstock I just got. It felt light and playful right away — like floral confetti.

I also found a soft pink vellumn strip I had foiled earlier in the week waiting for just the right card. I love how it doesn’t cover up the background!

Card 2: Gingham + Tulips (from a Real Bouquet)

The gingham paper came from a bouquet of tulips I received from a friend. I laminated it and turned it into a card panel, then added a simple row of tiny flowers and stems.

Sometimes the meaning is already in the materials.

Card 3: Balloon Embossing + Confetti Fill

I had a balloon embossing folder sitting nearby (a $3 Spellbinders warehouse sale find!) on C+9th Starfruit cardstock.

I tucked flowers in a few balloons — like each one was holding a tiny celebration. Adding the white frame gave it structure and turned it into more of a “scene.”

Card 4: Kraft + Deckled Edge Wildflower Cluster

This one used everything that was left. Plus a few leaves that I cut just for this purpose from another IO set.

At first it felt a little too contained — like the cluster was behaving too nicely. The fix was simple: I cut it using a deckle paper trimmer and mounted it on white.

I also added tiny centers and a few sequins to unify everything.

Each card ended up with its own personality:

  • airy and modern
  • soft and sentimental
  • graphic and playful
  • rich and organic

And honestly, that’s the part I love most.

Sometimes creativity isn’t about finding the next new thing… it’s about seeing what’s already sitting right in front of you.
